Takanawa/Shinagawa ‒ a new international MICE area with great access

The Takanawa/Shinagawa area is reinventing itself.

TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, a new location that will become a base for international exchange linking all the regions of Japan with the world under the development concept of ‘Global Gateway’, will have its grand opening on 28th March 2026.

The complex will include THE LINKPILLAR 1, which has, among other things, a 4,000-person capacity convention hall (maximum area: 1,640m2), a 2,000-person capacity conference facility and a luxury hotel as well as three other buildings.
Office space, luxury hotels, commercial facilities, clinics, an international school and housing will be developed as well as a new museum, making it a city that is more open to the world.

In addition to the development of TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY in the Takanawa/Shinagawa area, Happo-en reopened after rebranding and the luxury hotel, JW Marriott Tokyo opened in October 2025. International Convention Center Pamir houses Japan’s largest convention hall at 2,397㎡ and Shinagawa Prince Hotel boasts 3,500 guest rooms, the highest number in Japan The Takanawa/Shinagawa area is proud to have approximately 5,500 guest rooms from luxury hotels to business hotels to respond to a wide range of needs. In addition, the Takanawa/Shinagawa area is reinventing itself as a base for large international MICE events offering a wide range of experiences unique to the area from historical Japanese cultural experiences such as the aquarium as a unique venue or riverboat cruises and shopping in commercial facilities created in TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY.

Transport connections are also extremely convenient

One of the attractions of Takanawa/Shinagawa is its location. Shinagawa Station was Japan’s first railway station and is currently a stop on the bullet train line. It is only 11 minutes from Haneda Airport to Shinagawa Station. From there, you can get to cities in Western Japan such as Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima on the bullet train. From 2034, Shinagawa is set to be the departure station for the Linear Chuo Line linking up with Nagoya in just 40 minutes, halving the current travel time. The plan is to extend this line to Western Japan’s largest city, Osaka, in 2045, so the Takanawa/Shinagawa area will become a gateway that smoothly links Tokyo with the rest of Japan and the world.

Takanawa/Shinagawa is a city that goes beyond modernity

While offering world-class technology, the Takanawa/Shinagawa area provides many attractions for travelers who would like to experience traditional Japan. The Takanawa/Shinagawa area is not just a city with new buildings or one that focuses only on the future; it also has many shrines and temples of historical importance such as Sengakuji Temple.

Happo-en and the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa are both MICE facilities with traditional Japanese gardens, and it is possible to experience true Japanese culture such as teahouses, sake tasting, ninja shows and traditional dancing. In addition, the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa and the high-grade The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo’s gardens feature stone lanterns and bell towers as well as 210 cherry blossom trees of 17 different species so visitors can experience the essence of Japan.

A bright future for Takanawa/Shinagawa, the Gateway to Japan

The Takanawa/Shinagawa area international business city plan is groundbreaking. No matter whether you are on a private trip or a group trip, Takanawa/Shinagawa will provide a unique environment for you. Even more important, Takanawa/Shinagawa is not merely a world-class MICE destination. It will also become a platform for business interaction and cultural creation that gathers people and shares ideas in a safe but exciting environment placing importance on the future of the world and all the people who live in it.
